Stripping Away Rights Under the Guise of Fiscal Responsibility

The United States is under attack from within. The Koch Brothers, Fox News, Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Palin and other extremists have used power and money to convince the gullible (Tea Party followers) that they are fighting against the tyranny of the Obama administration and defending the country against socialism. They have taken a page right out of "Mein Kampf": “All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach."

In the past few days we have seen the Republican dominated congress launch assaults on funding for Planned Parenthood and Public Broadcasting, all while rejecting $53 billion in taxpayer savings in favor of big oil companies. I wonder how long it will be before they take a page out of former representative Richard Pombo's(R)(CA11) book and sell off our National Parks to oil companies and other commercial interests. Jackie Speier gave this heartfelt presentation just before the house voted down Planned Parenthood funding:

On top of this, labor unions are under attack again. Wisconsin's Governor Walker is pushing legislation to eliminate collective bargaining rights for the state's public employee union. Based on what I have read in various sources, Wisconsin public employees with a 4 year degree currently make approximately $20K less per year than their private sector counterparts. This is after factoring in benefits. I am not always pro-union, but I do believe that the alternative is much worse.
