Thomas Rachman's "The Imperfectionists"

"The Imperfectionists" follows the rise and fall of an English language newspaper based in Italy. The story unfolds through a series of anecdotes about the founder (Cyrus Ott) and various employees and even one reader from its founding in 1953 until its collapse during the editorial reign of Oliver Ott in 2007.

Each 'chapter' alternates between an anecdote from the past and one from the present until past and present become one in 2007. The characters were interesting, but I had a hard time remembering who was who as the story progressed.

The style of stitched together stories is reminiscent of Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles". Both require patience although, I feel that Rachman actually does a better job pulling the stories together.
